Creative Apprenticeships

Creative Apprenticeships are a new alternative route into the creative industries. Creative Apprenticeships are a mix of on, and off-the-job, training where people have the opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge and gain qualifications while working.

Launched in September 2008, Creative Apprenticeships are the first industry designed and approved government funded apprenticeship framework for the creative and cultural sector. On-the-job learning is a significant component of the Creative Apprenticeship allowing young people to gain experience and employment.

Creative Apprentices are able to take up opportunities within community arts, cultural and heritage venue operations, live events and promotions, technical theatre (lighting, sound and rigging), technical theatre (costume and wardrobe) and music business recording.

Apprentices have been employed by organisations including The Sage Gateshead, Centre for Life, Jack Drum Arts, Tyne & Wear Museums, Northern Stage, The Customs House, Museum of Hartlepool and Hartlepool Maritime Experience and Seven Stories, The Centre for Children’s Books.
