Overall purpose of the job

A home for music and musical discovery, The Sage Gateshead is one of the UKs leading cultural organisations. Our Learning and Participation Programme is widely acclaimed and we are the home of Northern Sinfonia and Folkworks, as well as being recognised as one of the best performance venues in the world.

The success of the fundraising team is key to the success of the organisation. The team has an annual revenue target approaching £500,000 alongside other fundraising projects. The Fundraising Manager – Sponsorships and Corporate is a core part of the team

Responsibilities

1. To work with the Head of Fundraising and the Director of Development to generate income from Sponsorships and Corporates with support from the Fundraising Coordinator (Corporates and NST) Time 70%

2. To manage the work of the Fundraising Co-ordinator (Corporates and NST) Time 15%

3. To Monitor and report progress against agreed objectives and financial targets Time 10%

4. Internal and external communication of Fundraising objectives Time 5%

Duties required from each responsibility

1. To work with the Head of Fundraising and The Director of Development to generate income from Trusts and Foundations with support from the Fundraising Coordinator (Trusts and Foundations and Sage Supporters)

• Take ownership of The Sage Gateshead’s Sponsorship and Corporate Strategy:
o Identify and research opportunities for Sponsorship and Corporate support locally, nationally and internationally using a variety of tools including online resources, media coverage, word of mouth information and our CRM software Tessitura
o Manage the completion of proposals, applications, and reports ensuring they are well researched, prepared, written and submitted to an agreed timescale, against criteria or priorities identified with or by the potential supporter, and within the parameters of the work of The Sage Gateshead.
o Work with current supporters to identify and act upon opportunities for new sources of funding
o Manage all sponsorships, donations and grants to meet the objectives agreed with the sponsor including delivery of benefits.

• Plan and manage appropriate donor care, recruitment and retention including:
o Communications with existing and potential supporters by email, letter, phone and in person
o donor care and cultivation events
o work with members of the team to maintain the database of potential and existing supporters (Tessitura) to record and track contacts with donors building a picture of support to inform the Fundraising Strategy

• Manage resources to achieve the delivery of income targets

• Develop and maintain links with external networks (e.g. NGCV)

• Liaise and build effective working partnerships with colleagues, particularly in the Learning and Participation and Performance Programming departments, to identify opportunities for support at a variety of financial levels.

• Manage the preparation of copywriting and liaise with other relevant teams including Marketing and Communications in the production of printed and on-line fundraising materials

• Maintain a current knowledge of the relevant tax breaks and incentives open to donors and supporters and to ensure that knowledge is harnessed in communications with potential donors/supporters and that the business claims and receives all revenue it is able to in this respect.

2. To manage the work of the Fundraising Co-ordinator (Corporate and NST)

• Manage, develop and support the Fundraising Co-ordinator, meeting recruitment, induction, line management and PDR standards of the company
• Support the Fundraising Coordinator with their responsibility for the Principal Partners scheme
• Work with the Fundraising Coordinator to deliver the Sponsorship ad Corporate Support Strategy, identifying short, medium and long term goals

3. Monitor and report progress against agreed objectives and financial targets
• Manage, monitor and review progress against the objectives of the fundraising strategies, financial targets and donor satisfaction levels utilising Tessitura and other relevant software and support solutions
• Manage and undertake the provision of reports to Board and sub-committees of North Music Trust and Northern Sinfonia Trust as required
• Manage and report on elements of the team expenditure budgets and income targets ensuring financial protocols are complied with

4. Internal and external communication of Development objectives
• Manage relevant liaison with other departments over the planning, delivery and monitoring of fundraising campaigns.
• Manage liaison with Marketing and Communications and Customer Service colleagues to ensure a flow of communication about supporters and events and deliver appropriate campaigns and events for fundraising activities.
• Work with the Head of Fundraising and Major Gifts and other colleagues to extend the circle of advocates who actively support the work of the Fundraising team.

5. Undertake all other tasks as may be required to deliver the role.

Knowledge, experience and skills required to do job
Essential (required)
Qualifications
• Degree or equivalent level of education
Experience
• 3 years experience and proven track record in fundraising
• An excellent track record in donor care or customer relations
Skills or knowledge
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• A sound knowledge of the wider fundraising context and opportunities including private sector philanthropy across Corporates, Individuals and Trusts and Foundations
• The ability to create and sustain excellent working partnerships; work as part of a close knit team and with colleagues across the organisation
• Well developed research, analytical, numerical, administrative and presentational skills.
• Organisational skills including the ability to meet deadlines, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and manage projects effectively and deal with a number of projects concurrently.
• The ability to think creatively to find ways of “making the case.”
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to write clear, well structured and relevant proposals and reports.
• A current knowledge of potential sources of information including the tax advantages and incentives for giving to charitable organisations
• Advanced IT skills (we currently run Windows, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Tessitura).

Terms and Conditions

The salary for this post is £22,839.24- £26,139.46 per annum pro rata (SCP 27-31) with appointments normally made at the bottom of the scale.

The holiday entitlement for this post is 30 days pa pro rata (including statutory holidays). You will be able to join our stakeholder pension scheme, to which North Music Trust will make a 3% contribution. We also offer subsidised parking for staff members, as well as a discount in our café, and access to a voluntary health cash plan.
