Folkworks: Allan Taylor and Rab Noakes

Hall Two

Rab Noakes’ voice of musical and life experience is unparalleled in Scotland’s music community. Allan Taylor is one of the most important songwriters of his generation. A powerful combination. These two top British songwriters are also very well known performers, writing and performing around the world since the 1960s.

Allan Taylor is a writer of literary gracefulness. His troubadour chronicles illuminate otherwise unsung heroes, and otherwise uncharted lives.

There’s no mystery about his appeal: beautifully crafted, worldly-wise songs with beguiling, precision-built guitar accompaniments, delivered in a firm, American-tinged voice that sounds as if it is telling you a story. The Scotsman (Alastair Clark) on Allan Taylor

Rab Noakes’ contribution to music over the last four decades has been remarkable. Mention of Leiber and Stoller, Terry Melcher, Ringo Starr, Lindisfarne, Stealers Wheel, Barbara Dickson and Gerry Rafferty from the past and more recently Karine Polwart from the present. With his warmly intimate vocal style, apposite guitar picking and background knowledge it would be a hard heart who isn’t drawn in.

Two giants of songwriting in an intimate and unforgettable evening of music.
