Carolina Chocolate Drops

North Carolina–based Carolina Chocolate Drops follow up their 2010 debut album and Grammy Award winning ‘Genuine Negro Jig’, which reached number one on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart and number two on the Billboard Heatseekers and Folk Charts with ‘Leaving Eden’ (released 28th February).

Carolina Chocolate Drops formed when they met at a roots festival in 2005, and discovered a shared interest in traditional African-American string band music of the Piedmont region.

The New York Times describe their live shows as “an end-to-end display of excellence… They dip into styles of Southern black music from the 1920s and ’30s—string-band music, jug-band music, fife and drum, early jazz—and beam their curiosity outward”. The band brought their exuberant live show back to the UK in January, performing to sell out crowds at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow and London’s Cecil Sharp House.
