Folkworks: Future Traditions Folk Degree Recitals

Ed Burgon, Tom Redman, Victoria Laurenson and Marit Fält. Newcastle University’s Folk and Traditional Music degree is a well-spring of hugely talented musicians, vividly demonstrated in this series of final year recitals.

1pm: Ed Burgon

Ed Burgon is from The Cotswolds and his recital will focus on songs of Revolution, incorporating Traditional, Contemporary and Original songs to question to what extent music has influenced and inspired these uprisings.

2pm: Tom Redman

Tom hails from South Downs and the Town of Lewes and his recital features powerful songwriting, grass roots songs and traditional dance locked together to evoke natural cycles, childhood memories and a sense of place.

3pm: Victoria Laurenson

An accordion player from the Shetland Islands, Victoria Laurenson’s style has been influenced from there and further afield. Her varied repertoire includes Scottish tunes as well as tunes from Shetland, Sweden, England and France

4pm: Marit Fält

Marit Fält is an inventive and innovative mandola player from Sweden.She will perform a mixture of Scandinavian and British traditional music.
