Mendelssohn Psalm 42
Will Todd Ode to a Nightingale
Mozart Requiem
A sumptuous programme of choral music from the Hertfordshire Chorus.
Mendelssohn’s ‘Psalm 42’ is a majestic choral piece and something of an undiscovered treasure, despite Schumann praising it as Mendelssohn’s most successful sacred composition.
Will Todd’s ‘Ode to a Nightingale’ had its world premiere at the Barbican in May 2011. It is a glorious and inspiring setting of Keats’ powerful and moving poetry, and receives its second performance in this concert.
Mozart’s glorious ‘Requiem’ was his last composition and he died before it was finished. Much conjecture, fantasy and even intrigue has surrounded the work, but there is no doubting its beauty and power.
Please note Graeme Danby has been replaced by Michael Bundy.
