PROKOFIEV (arr. Barshai) Visions Fugitives

BARTÓK Divertimento

Even as the Russian revolution unfurled outside his window, Prokofiev maintained work on his ‘Vision Fugitives’ – snapshots of life and feeling, by turns mournful and mischievous and surely among the most elegant and revealing of Prokofiev’s works.

The very human foibles of Prokofiev’s miniatures are countered by the heavenly ingle span of ‘Distant Light’, the violin concerto by Latvian Peteris Vasks that is fast becoming a modern classic.

Bradley Creswick talks about ‘Distant Light

“The Sinfonia’s sound, sturdy and fresh, was pleasure enough, particularly when we just had the strings, coursing so crisply and succulently through Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances” The Times on Northern Sinfonia at the Southbank Centre, February 2013
