Saxophonist and composer Trish Clowes performs music from her second album for Basho Records, featuring Gwilym Simcock, her quartet – with Chris Montague, Calum Gourlay and James Maddren – and improvising string quartet led by Thomas Gould.
Trish was recently announced as BBC Radio 3’s Jazz New Generation Artist for 2012-14. Visit the BBC website for more details.
Since her debut album ‘Tangent’, Clowes has won accolades for her music’s integrity, luminousity and ambition, and her saxophone sound has been compared to Stan Getz, Charles Lloyd and Iain Ballamy. She has enjoyed live radio broadcasts, jazz festival appearances and a PRS for Music Foundation award for her own festival Emulsion. Conceptually sitting on the fringes of jazz, the compositions have an emphasis on strong melodies and creating interesting platforms for improvisation.
