Silver Singers

Silver Singing groups take place in various different locations across the North East of England, and the groups regularly come together for a ‘Big Sing’, either singing the joint repertoire they have learnt or working on a theme.

Silver Singers are community choirs for anyone over 50 who likes to sing. The material is a mix of world music, popular songs, folk songs, spirituals, Geordie songs, in fact anything from Cole Porter to Annie Lennox.

When Silver Singers began at The Sage Gateshead there was surprise at how many people turned up. Silver Singers has now grown and has over 450 members. New members are always welcome, so come along, enjoy a good sing, coffee and friendship.

Some comments from members of the Silver Singers…

“Silver Singing is stimulating and entertaining. It lifts my mood!”

“I joined The Silver Programme at The Sage Gateshead from a recommendation in another choir. Silver Singers offers a very broad range of music rehearsed in a light-hearted friendly way. Then joining together at The Big Sing offers us the opportunity to hear our music in a huge group which is very encouraging.”

“I so enjoy singing, it lifts my spirits and I feel it is good for both my physical and mental well-being.”

“I have met many new friends and enjoy the camaraderie”
