North East England Tourism Awards at The Sage Gateshead
The Sage Gateshead will host this year’s reputable North East England Tourism Awards on Thursday 31st January. The awards, which have grown to play a significant role in business tourism across the North East, honour the achievements of venues, attractions, hotels and service providers working in the tourism industry. Carol Malia, BBC Look North Presenter, will this year host the awards that range from the ‘Business Tourism Award’ to the ‘Self Catering Holiday Provider of the Year’ to the ‘Tourism Pub of the Year’.
The awards play a key part to the ongoing economic success of the region and are designed to celebrate the achievements of the businesses and individuals who deliver experiences for the 83.6m visitors who choose to come to the North East every year.
The Sage Gateshead’s bid to host the event was successful and the event will take place on the open Concourse space, overlooking the River Tyne. The event, with up to 400 guests, will bring entertainment from the region’s musicians and a menu that includes many local foods, celebrating the strengths that the North East has to offer.
Anna Stacy, Head of Conference and Events said: “We are delighted to be working alongside our partners NGI to host these fantastic awards, which are such a key date in the region’s tourism business diary. We’ve always been strong supporters of the awards so it’s lovely to have the opportunity to stage the awards here, giving the event the backdrop it deserves.”
Anthony Sargent, General Director of The Sage Gateshead, said: “These events which recognise outstanding achievement do so much to drive up regional standards and encourage everyone to raise their game and aim high, and as our own contribution to the evening we’re looking forward to weaving in some distinctive North Eastern elements.”
NewcastleGateshead Initiative’s Chief Executive Sarah Stewart, said: “We were delighted to be able to take on the project of delivering the North East England Tourism Awards, with the help and support of our partners and colleagues to celebrate the stand-out stories and achievements from across the region. The Sage Gateshead’s proposal to host the awards really embodied the spirit of the North East, combining local food and entertainment, and as one of our most iconic event venues I am confident our guests will have a truly fantastic evening.”
The Sage Gateshead has been shortlisted in the Sustainable Tourism category and for the Access for All Award which they previously won in 2009.
